if i only remember one thing...

one day when i was around 11 i was staying at a friend's house and was chatting to his mum. i can't remember exactly what the conversation was about, but there was one thing she said that i've never forgotten in the 25+ years since - "the older you get, the quicker time passes". okay, she might not have said those exact words, but it was something similar, if not as profound.

i'm constantly amazed and worried about how quickly the weeks spin around, from friday to monday to friday again; always waiting for the weekend, always fearing monday. each week i'm trying to make the best of the new business, enjoy spending time with the kids, and finding time to spend with my wife. not to mention the time trying to organise some socialising and beers. i suppose my only hobby is posting poetry for no-one to read, but if i had some hardcore time-consuming hobbies, i'd be in a perma-loop of bewilderment and perceived deja-vu.

Time We Left

I hear the something call me -
In the vast expanse I hide
And withhold the very answers
You'd hope to glean tonight
Whilst laying in the darkness,
Convenient hole to lay,
Perceiving Sunday sharply
And Monday in dismay.

O hell to hide, insanity,
Come fast, take over me
Blindfold me now and ever
It's still something that I see,
With limbs all lost and leaden
And circumstance bereft
Of all tidy excuses.
Surely time we left...
